I just read this article describing a speech by Thabo Mbeki. Wow.
Basically he rejects the American idea that free markets will determine the best course and that all a country need do to right itself is attract foreign investment. This will not work in Africa and doesn't even work in 1st world countries such as the UK and US, where lots of public spending occurs.
He then goes on to take a jab at Mugabe and congatulate a few African countries for improving democracy. There is also a brief discussion about wether the NEPAD peer review mechanism should be punative. I think it should be but I am not sure how, sanctions are not the way to go in my opinion.
All in all, an awesome piece and I love my president for it.
