Dana Epp has a write up of her first day at the SecureWorld conference in Seattle. The bit that interested me was: "The panels on patch management and vulnerability assessment were
boring. When everyone agrees and is doing vendor plugs... you do
nothing to have an intelligent conversation on the subjects".
The conference website's description for this panel is below. It seems they had some of the big patch management vendors but were missing an opinion for the complete configuration managers like IBM Tivoli and M$ SMS, and what about Shavlik? Anyway I tend to distrust these corporate presentations as large adverts. If Dana said it was boring I suspect it is because they are all doing the same thing with a different GUI.

Patch Management

administrators race to apply security patches before hackers can take
advantage of newly discovered vulnerabilities. Due to the critical
nature of these patches, they have to be applied quickly and securely.
