I was sitting in front of my lab computer doing nothing one morning and I realised I was bored stiff. I couldn't bring myself to do any work or even do anything interesting. I decided I needed to do something else with my life.
So, after a spectacular lecture by one of our poetry professors, Dan Wylie, on how poetry encourages critical thought, specifically targetted at commerce and science students I realised I miss philosophy. Thus, I have picked up Philosophy II. I have only been to two leactures so far but it is filled with promise. The lecturer, Marius (some may know him as gOD), is a full-on Darwinist and listening to the academically patronising way in which he talks about creationism while sitting next to my new His Person friend, Denise, is amusing.
Now that my mind was taken care of I needed something for my body. To this end I have taken up Taekwon-Do. I used to do this in high school for about two years. I got very into it and used to train four times a week. I recieved several A gradings (how one progresses through the belt levels) and got a silver medal for under-16 patterns and under-16 sparring at the South African championships. I have forgetten most of it but my body remembers many of the movements. It is incredibly demanding on the body and I have had stiff muscles all week.
I am feeling much better and far more inspired. Except I have bee unable to do any work for the last two days. For some reason I have had a total of about 4 hours to myself with the rest being full of everything else. This should be only temporary. I intended to get up early this morning and get to it but the beer debate and fines evening after has me a bit under the weather.
