Each member of the SRC is required to submit a portfolio statement containing what they feel their job on the SRC is and what they would like to see accomplished in the year.
Job
I feel that my job is complementary to the presidents. Together the president and I form the leadership of the council. While his job is as a visible leader both towards the university administration and the councillors I act as a bridge between this leadership and the councillors. This position and the presidents has a lot of overlap. I also feel that I act as the president's sounding board, and he acts as mine. I think the closeness of the two positions is desireable and due to the close relatioship the current president and vice-president have. On a personal level I feel that I am not a "politician" and so am more task oriented while the president is more aware of the larger issues. I am learning however.VisionThere are many things I would like to see accomplished this year, perhaps too many. Hence these visions are more directional and general to avoid a list of specifics, many of which I am not aware of yet.
- Web Enable
- This involves automating tedious processes or enabling process that would otherwise be impossible by using technology and more specifically the internet.
- Change
- This is one of the reasons I joined the SRC. Change things that are problems. This could be updating policies or putting forward proposals for new or updated facilities or proccesses etc.
- Publicity
- The common student gripe of "But what does the SRC do?" should be eradicated. I am ridiculously busy with SRC activities, and so are many other councillors, the public should not only know what we are doing but preferably take an interest.
- Excellence
- This is a buzzword but a valid one. Everything we do should recieve praise such as "the best x we have ever seen". Future SRC's should have to live up the the reputation we set. The last SRC to do this was Matt Charlesworth's and we shall be the next.
