When I was a mini-geek my best friends, older brother introduced us to the demoscene. One group really stick out in my mind, Future Crew. These guys, and in particular their demo, Second Reality, are one of the big reasons I became a geek. Thanks to a wonderful program called DOSBox I got to relive some of their demos. The effects they come up with, from alpha blending to raytracing to mesh transforms all without any graphic toolsets, all handcoded in assembler, are still amazing.

Second Reality by Future Crew - Awesome, Mindblowing, Unbelievable, Impossible. Some of the words used to describe what this piece of code from demoscene gods Future Crew did on 1993-era PC hardware. Even by today's standards, what this program can do without relying on any kind of 3D graphics acceleration is impressive. As if the graphics weren't impressive enough, it can even playback in Dolby Surround Sound.
I found out about DOSBox from Wikipedia, so to 'give back' I reworked a lot of the wiki entry on Second Reality.
