I arrived back from my job interview trip to Jo'burg yesterday morning. I had five interviews. I want to say more, but won't until I have an offer signed and sealed. There was one interview in particular where I kept wanting to shout 'yes, yes I want to do that' but managed to restrain myself. The others were either not what I wanted to do or I wasn't what they wanted. An MSc can make you a bit overqualified and under-experienced. The trip to SensePost was particularly exciting, although they didn't have any jobs available, Charl van der Walt gave me some great advice. The really exciting bit was when several mattresses flew at us off the back of a truck when we were going 140kph on the highway.
There really is a lot of opportunity in South Africa and I really don't buy the whole 'white-male-no-job' whine I get from so many people.
On the cultural side Jo'burg was awesome. I saw two great art exhibitions, John Mayer's (the painter not the singer) new exhibition was mindblowing, and I appreciate, but dislike Penny Siopsis' work. There is so much to do in the big city compared to this sleepy town. I am quite excited.
