If anyone reading this is having problems when upgrading to the latest firmware (v1.07.1 in my case) and getting the error message: "Your player is not connected, please connect your player" I have found a solution / workaround for this issue (worked in my case anyway): I had firmware v1.3A on my player and tried to 'upgrade' to the latest v1.07.01 (WTF is the deal with the 'backwards' version numbers here!!??) but it kept coming up with that error, no matter what I did. I think there may be a requirement that you can only upgrade to v1.07.01 from a later firmware version (maybe 1.5?). While this method seems to leave your music etc on the player intact, it might pay to do a backup first, just in case :) To upgrade the firmware of the Creative Rhomba Player: 1) Using an archiving utility (I used WinRar, but WinZip _might_ work) uncompress the firmware .exe file that you downloaded from the Creative site (called 'RHOMBA_PCFW_LB_1_07_1.exe' by default), by 'opening' the file with the compression tool and then extracting the files from there. 2) Among the files that were uncompressed, you should find one called 'Rhomba Firmware Installer.exe' (you can ignore the other uncompressed files). Uncompress 'Rhomba Firmware Installer.exe' as well using the same method. 3) Copy all files EXCEPT 'RhombaFWUP.exe' to the root of your player (if you can't see your player in windows, then sorry, I can't help you. Try some of the other methods mentioned here and elsewhere on the web - If it powers on, it probably needs formatting, if not, it may need charging - just leave it plugged in to the USB cable for a while - or else it's dead :( 4) Disconnect your player from your computer. The firmware upgrade starts automatically. 5) When your player turns off, turn it on again. 6) Slide the HOLD key to the left. 7) When your player turns off, slide the HOLD key to the right. 8) Switch your player on. '1.07.01' should be displayed in the right hand window on the player during startup. Hope this helps someone out there. It took me a while to figure this out! Another thing I discovered is that the CREATIVE SUPPLIED instructions for activating the 'Recovery Mode' on a Rhomba player with firmware v1.07.01 are INCORRECT (well, they didn't work for me that's for sure)!! I figured out how to do it: *** WARNING: YOU WILL LOOSE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PLAYER IF YOU DO THIS, BACKUP FIRST!! *** To enter the recovery mode of the Creative Rhomba Player: 1) Disconnect your player from your PC 2) Turn off your player 3) Slide the Hold switch to the left 4) Press and hold both the Volume "+" and "-" buttons. 5) While holding the buttons press and hold the "Play/Pause" key until you see the "Format Handler" menu. 6) Use the scroll wheel to select a format option (Full Format or Quick Format). 7) Slide the Hold switch to the right after the player is formatted.
