Pulled an all nighter and still awake. Danni got back this morning and I am in the HKE dept being used as a subject for Ergonomics testing.
I am supposed to get used to various workstatios so I figured this is a prime opportunity to write out what I did all of last night. I haven't been to bed yet.
It all started with Yusuf giving me his iPAQ that he is no longer using. There is not a chance in hell I am going to be using Windows ActiveSync so i set about figuring out:
Next I recompiled Ximian Evolution with the pda use flag (gentoo users) and manually compiled the multisync evolution plugin which for some reason unknown to me gentoo was removing. I got that all set up and things are syncing. The only problem is that the stupid ipaq won't respect any sort of timezone, if the event is using Africa/Johannesburg the ipaq will refuse to even copy it, so you have to set it to no timezone, which defaults to UTC. This means that the ipaq adds +2 for being in the Pretoria timezone. So I changed the timezone to GMT, now it adds +1. So I changed it to a -1 timezone, now it is less one than the correct time. So in summary:
+2 GMT - over by 2 hours
+1 GMT - over by one hour
GMT - over by one hour
-1 GMT - less by one hour
You see the problem. So instead I have to specify that every even has no timezone (as Evolution tries to actually assign a timezone).
The next problem is that the ipaq will refuse to accept events with recurrance and if you create and event on it with its very simple recurrence, Evolution won't have it as recurring.
So apart from those two irrits it is working nicely.

- How to synch with the thing using Linux
- How to import my existing iCalendar files to it
