Now let me explain. When we moved into our flat we paid to have our DSTV subscription set up. DSTV is our version of cable for you non South Africans. The guy, Stuart (for now), charged us to install a new dish and cabling. Later, when my mothers TV started acting up, I called him in to replace a cable I was sure was faulty. Instead he sold us a new decoder.
Fast forward to this week. I just bought a PVR. It absolutely rocks. I phoned around for some prices, they were all in the range of R1200-1500. Then Rory Freeman gave me Marcus' number. Marcus quoted me R850. He came around earlier today and discovered that Stuart had both lied and over charged. He hadn't installed a dish, but used the one that was already here. This didn't stop him for charging us for a new dish. He also charged us double what a new decoder costs the second time he came around. We will be phoning him tomorrow for some amusing results. I will also be reporting him to Multichoice.
On to Marcus. Marcus arrived, mounted the roof of our four story block of flats in an electric storm (I made him promise he wouldn't die), laid 60m of cable until 7:30pm and discovered the trickery of our last guy. He is very friendly and easy to get along with and very accommodating. He provided all sorts of advice, including ways to save cost, for example you don't need a remote blaster with the PVR (one of the guys I phoned for a quote said I would). The best part is, he is significantly cheaper than the other guys.
So, if you are in the Jozi region (including Pretoria) and you need any work done on your DSTV, phone Marcus. Oh, he's also Multichoice accredited.
